The Brown Bear (Ursus Arctos) is currently recognized to have 16 subspecies: the largest are the Kodiak bear, Grizzly bear, and Siberian Brown bear.
Kodiak bears reach about 5 feet tall at the shoulder, reaching up to 10 feet while standing.
Grizzly bears reach about 4 feet tall at the shoulder while standing on all four legs, reaching up to about 9 feet tall standing on just their hind legs.
Siberian Brown bears reach about 3 and a half feet tall at the shoulder while standing on all four legs, reaching up to about 8 feet tall while standing on just their hind legs.
Standing on all four feet, a polar bear has an average height of 5 feet from paw to shoulder. When standing up on its hind legs, a polar bear can be anywhere from 8 to 12 feet tall.
