According to an article by Barry Kopetz in The Instrumentalist magazine, this is an original melody by Jacobs. It sure is beautiful - sad, longing, hopeful, but ultimately tragic. It would make great music to a play about two lovers that can't come to terms with the fact that their relationship was not to be.
