At the start I reccomend getting Chimchar or Pinplup, As they can learn very good moves. The evolves of the above are: Chimchar: 1.MONFERNO 2. INFERNAPE
Pinplup: 1. Prinplup 2. Empolion
Okay, When you get surf, Teach a water-type Pokémon it. Surf from Jubilife City, Battle those two trainers. Warning: One of them has Gyarados. After that, Surf back. You may be challenged by a wild Tentacool. Surf on the other side, You will find a rare candy. Surf to Canalave City where you will find the steel gym. Once you cross the bridge, Your friend will challenge you (Thats why its good to choose infernape if you teach him Flare Blitz or Flame wheel!) To beat him with torterra, Is easy. Just use razor leaf a few times. Then, Go to the library, Lucas and the Pokémon Professor will be waiting for you. After your talk, a big earthquake happens. Once you do that, Go to the boat, Ask the man to go to Iron Island and Anchors Aweigh! You are there.
