Simply put, the late 1800's saw a boom in industry, invention, and capitol which revolutionized industry and labor. Factories were significantly larger and busier than before the Civil war. Unions also played a role in the late 1800's. Labor Unions began to really emerge and become popular in this time period, something that was never seen before the Civil War. Though Unions were often crushed or just dwindled down to nothingness, a few good labor laws were enacted such as limits on child labor, a limit on the length of a work day, and minimum wage (not entirely sure about that one though). You could also say that factories built different things in different ways than in the Civil War. The Bessemer process revolutionized the way steel was made and a wealth of inventions flooded the market and needed to be build.
