The Titanic was divided into classes depending upon social hierarchy. First class was for aristocracy (or people who had inherited o sort of royal status such as countesses and counts); Second Class was for working people such as clerks, minors, and teachers; Third class was for the people who wanted to emigrate to America for a better life. They weren't really divided by how much they could pay but their class did determine where their sleeping quarters were located. The aristocrats paid for the type of quarters they wanted but a whole family could board on one ticket that may have only cost £260 depending on the size of the quarters.
