You have to visit a bank branch and then submit a letter that looks like below:

To,

The Manager

__________ (Fill in the name of the bank and branch in the blanks)

From,

_____ (Fill in your Name)

______(Fill in your Address & Phone number)

Sir,

Sub: Reg. Closing of Bank Account ______ (Fill in the Account number)

As I would like to close my bank account _____ (fill in your bank account number) with you, kindly do the needful reg. the same. Please do the needful to close my account and repay the balance held in my account to me.

The bank would take up the request and pay you the balance as cash or check.
