In the movie, it's implied that both are just incredibly good at languages and just picked them up in school and on the streets from having to deal with so many different people.
I read the outsiders last year, and even though i thought it was a good book, theme is not something you read on a page, its something you infer
the lesson in the book is to be nice to every one . for example the socs were not nice to the greasers and thes greasers werent nice to the socs so things got bad.
