It was a film called 'Trains, Planes and Automobiles'
Planes, Trains and Automobiles is a film of the comedy genre released in 1987. It was written and directed by John Hughes and stars Steve Martin and John Candy in the main roles of Neal Page (Martin) and Del Griffiths (Candy).
6ft.3in. Candy was a wonderful actor ,planes trains and automobiles was the best movie ever Trains.... was an awesome movie, he 'made' the film for me. Check him out in JFK, too, even as a serious actor he was really good
No, John Candy was NOT in "Overboard" he was shooting "planes, Trains" at that time
John Candy was a Canadian born actor best known for his comedic roles, particularly in John Hughes films. I think some of his most iconic roles were (in no particular order): Planes, Trains and Automobiles, Uncle Buck, The Great Outdoors, Spaceballs, Stripes, Summer Rental and Armed and Dangerous to name a few. There are almost too many to list. He unfortunately passed away in 1994 at the age of 43.
I read in an article years ago (I haven't ever been able to find it again) that Candy was struck by a piece of camera equipment during filming. It was totally accidental and they tried to cover it up as best they could during filming.
There were several locations in the film but a few outside shots were taken in Gurnee, Illinois (that's outside Chicago) at The River Trail Gardens and Inn located at 36355 Route 41, Gurnee, IL, 60031. It's a motel they used in (I think) that scene where Steve Martin and John Candy have to share a bed? The building doesn't really look the same anymore but you can go see it!
