I think it was John Savage
I just watched the movie, it was Christopher Walken's character Nick. Later Savage's character Steven breaks at least one leg after hitting rocks when he falls out of a helicopter into the river below. You never hear details of the injury but see the displaced bones of one lower leg. Later in the movie he appears as a double-amputee.
