Things get a little ugly- Granny character either shoots or hits ( using the weapon as a club_ Man in Yellow Suit) ( is he an FBI agent) over the head and he dies- cop killers are guilty of a capital crime! it is not stated he is a cop but the idea is he may well be a detective or FBI man- FBI was founded in l908. Granny is slated to hang- but- thunderstorm erupts at the jailhouse- well I wont spoil it.
Winnie’s grandmother tells the man in the yellow suit, “I don’t know everyone, nor do I want to. And I don’t stand outside in the dark discussing such a thing with strangers.”
Well both have pretty much the same plot. Some similarites are: They both contain the man in the yellow suit, they both have the toad in the beginning, they both include the scene where Tuck talks to Winnie on the river about how it's not natural to live forever, etc.
Mae and Tuck returned to Treegap but it was not the Treegap they remembered. The roads were blacktop, the woods were gone and there was a gas station where the Foster's house had been all those years ago. Their horse drawn wagon got many stares. They passed by a new jail with a police car outside of it and made their way to a diner. Tuck talked to the waiter, asking about the woods. The waiter explained a storm had come through about three years before and the woods caught on fire. After that, it had to be bulldozed. Tuck asked about a spring in the woods, but the waiter knew nothing about it. After eating, Mae went shopping and Tuck went for a walk. They had both seen the cemetery as they arrived in town......
Mae Tucks special object is her music box Winnie's grandmother is so crazy she thought the beautiful music was coming from the "elves in the forest"
No, Jesse gave Winnie a bottle of the water that made her never die and he told her if she wanted to, come find him when she is seventeen and drink the water. She gave the water to her toad to protect him forever. She didn't get married to Jesse, and Jesse was heartbroken. Winnie got married and had children and died at age 78. Two years after she died, the Tucks went to her gravestone and remembered her. They saw a toad that was standing in the road not hopping away from the car that was going to run him over. Tuck picked it up and put it on the side of the road. He then said, "Durn fool thing must think he is going to live forever." It was obviously the toad Winnie had put the water on. I loved this book, and I really think it is way better than vampires.
Tuck said "Good girl" in Tuck Everlasting to encourage Winnie to do the right thing by keeping the secret of the spring and not running away from her responsibilities. It was a way for Tuck to show his appreciation and support for Winnie's courage and maturity in handling a difficult situation.
She didn't know if it was the right thing to do and she knew that there were many dangerous things out in the wood
