In the book The Outsiders how did two bit get his nickname?

In The Outsiders, as Ponyboy surveyed all the boys on why they liked to fight, two bit answers "Shoot, everybody fights." Pony later explains how Two-Bits will do basically anything anyone else did, just for conformity. So basically, Two-Bits just jumps on the bandwagon and does what everyone else does, which in this case is fighting.
