In the movie The Luck of the Irish why didn't Kyle Johnson's parents tell him he was half-leprechaun?

His mother, Kathleen O'Reilly, was a leprechaun, and she married a human man named Robert Smith. Her father, Reilly O'Reilly, disowned her for it, so she and her husband moved away and changed their last name from Smith to Johnson so her father wouldn't find them. Unfortunately, her father's Emerald Isle Potato Chip Company moved near their house and they thought they had to move because they would sooner or later run into him.

Kyle grew up knowing NOTHING about his heritage because his parents wanted him to be a normal, All-American boy, and his mother used her leprechaun powers to speak with an American accent. A family heritage event was coming up at Kyle's high school and his parents wouldn't talk to him about his ancestry, so he went to an Irish carnival to find out if he was Irish. After his lucky gold coin was stolen, his mother reverted to speaking with an Irish accent, her hair became longer and redder, her ears became pointed, and she shrunk to 1 inch tall. Kyle also became affected by the changes, and his parents apologized to him for not telling him he was half-leprechaun. They went to see Kyle's grandfather and all was eventually forgiven.
