According to the original 1900 book edition of 'The Wizard of Oz', Dorothy Gale was an orphan. She came to live on a Kansas farm with her Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. But the information as to Dorothy's whereabouts before the farm hasn't been shared. Was she living elsewhere in Kansas? Of was she living elsewhere in the United States of America? Readers simply don't have that information.
