They first "hook-up" & kinda/sorta date in book 4: "Dead to the World" ...when he has amnesia & is staying with her. But he doesnt remember anything by the end of the book.
They are officially "together" (dating) in book 9: Dead and Gone.

Sadly no, in the last book they separate. Eric married Freyda and Sookie stays with Sam.

In the book series, it's in book 9, but they haven't gotten that far in the television series, or if they even will get that far.
Why did Bill Compton and Sookie Stackhouse broke up?
In both the books and TV show, Bill and Sookie permantly broke up as of Book 3 'Club Dead' and as far as the show, I'm pretty sure if they still going by the book, that will be the same. But they broke up because Bill went back to his former lover and maker, and had sex, Bill had planned to pension Sookie off and stay with Lorena, and Sookie began to hate him for that. So they broke up. Personally, I think Eric and Sookie are just PERFECT for each other. Eric is just amazing. And like I said, if they make a True Blood season for every True Blood book, and stick by the book then in the end, Sookie and Eric will be married.

No sadly, In the book series Sookie is currently with Eric and in the television series shes not with anyone. I don't think there is a future for the two of them.

What happens between Sookie and Eric in book four?
They have sex. ------------ Eric gets amnesia cuz of a sadistic witch who found him so alluring (who doesn't?). Things happened with the spell then sookie found him running in the woods with no idea who he is. She gets paid by keeping him and they have a brief affiar while he's all sweet and scared and (still) tempting. Towards the end of the book, a Witch War broke out and the nxt night, Eric regained his memories, except the memory of his and sookie's little fling. He's then back to his original self ---- proud, conceited, authoritative, and being a sheriff....tho it is KILLING him that he doesn't remember being at sookie's place!
