Riders on the storm was both a song- by the Doors in the sixties ( Jim Morrison) and a movie made in the twenties. the film, NOT a western, was about two Girls who were sisters and the impact of World War I on their lifestyle. not really a war movie in the usual sense but a social commentary on war. The picture was banned for many years because A/ the misleading title suggested a Western ( my dad saw it as a teenager and half the people int he theatre were moms and kids- the kids totally(at sea) and unable to understand the plot- and absence of western elements- other than some cavalry cops in the Paris parks-Gendarmerie not Cowboys/ the film according to the Legion of Decency (Introduced the subject of prostitution) in the backdrop of a harmles-sounding title, which suggested a sagebrush saga. The Doors song may have been inspired by the film but was not in it as the film was out in the late twenties.
