The show has some real deaths, and some fake deaths. I know that a few are fake, such as the one where the guy got rabies from eating a raw squirrel he shot. Squirrels cannot contract, or carry rabies.

In the first season. Most of the deaths were real but exaggerated a little. I did research and found a lot of the deaths were real and similar to what was shown on the program. Then I noticed that some of the deaths were based on real incidents (The woman who breast implants exploded on a plane) but the victims did not actually die. Some of the deaths in the last two seasons are totally fake or exaggerated to the point of being so silly it was ridiculous!

I think some of them are real but i think a lot of it is exaggerated to freak people out. Like the episode Sore Looters with the girls who robbed the church and were electrocuted in the flooded basement. It could have happened but is probably fabricated.

Short answers: the ones based on *actual* deaths were highly sensationalized, and only ONE occurred exactly as depicted (Harry Houdini). More than half are based on myths or urban legends. Many combined events from two separate and unconnected incidents. Some (like the squirrel story) could not have ever happened as presented, and probably came from an entirely dissimilar event that resulted in injury or death.

People commenting on the show sometimes point to the disclaimer "all deaths are real" but this statement has no legal bearing whatsoever.
