There is currently not a law that specifies the age a child has to be to stay home alone overnight. It is left up to the parents to decide if their child is mature enough to handle it.
Twelve years of age is considered young enough and it would be wise to have your child stay with a neighbor you know and trust for the day. Ten years old is a bit too young in any State no matter how mature the child is.
While it is not recommended for a young child to be left home alone, parents can do so once the child becomes a teenager. However, it is important that you take into account how many nights and ensure that the children have an adult they can rely on if needed.
It is not illegal to leave a child in a car in Washington unless the car is left running. However I would never leave my young child in a car. I would leave a teenager alone in a car, they hate to be seen with mom or dad anyway. :-) My daughter called the police one day because a young child was left in the car and the poor thing was upset and crying. The police told her there was nothing he could do because the child was not in danger. The mother eventually showed up and demanded to know what was going on, the policeman explained the concern. The mother was so angry, she waited until the officer's back was turn and she flipped off my daughter. Hopefully the incident made her stop and think.
He got bitten by a green monkey when he was a young child. I don't remember if it was that alone or a reaction at an antidote that did it.
No you should never leave a young child alone!! A child over the age of 10 should be left until it gets dark, and over 16s whenever. Hope this helps!

There are no legal laws about the age a child may be left alone but a child who is left alone too young could leave the parent liable for negligence or child abuse. A general rule of thumb would be if the child can cook for him/herself or call emergency services.

There are no laws in Colorado that specifically address the age that a child can be left home alone. 7 is usually considered much too young to be left alone, and it could lead to child endangerment charges. Most authorities agree that a 12 year old can be safely left at home alone for a few hours during the day time.

The test would be whether the child is safe, whether the child feels safe, and if the child knows how to obtain assistance if they needed it. Most authorities agree that a 12-13 year old can be left alone for a couple of hours during the day. Ten is pretty young to be left alone.
Don't leave young kids alone in Kentucky. A child should not be left home alone in Kentucky until they are 11 years of age. There is no law per se, but I work in the child welfare arena and if your child is younger than this and being left alone child protective services will take a report and investigate a child left alone younger than 11. There still may be a report if a child is older than 11 and they are left for long periods of time. It's also not a good idea to let children younger than 13 babysit for younger children. I work for Child Protective Services in Louisville KY, and we investigate cases of children under the age of eight when they are left alone. Children above that age can be left alone for a couple of hours and we look at the maturity level of the children up to 12 years of age. There is no law in KY that addresses this issue.
A child is anyone 13 and under; young adult is 16-21 years old.
