Tim was one of John's closest childhood friends in "Dear John" by Nicholas Sparks. He was depicted as a supportive and dependable friend who played a significant role in John's life throughout the story.

Tim doesn't die in the book, although I think he dies in the ending
In the book she ends up leaving John because he made his choice to join the army again. So in the end, she ends up marrying Tim. In the movie however, she's with John. But it's kinda the same. She and Tim do get together, but I don't remember if they do get married or not. Because he already has a son, and says that his mom is on "vacation" when she really had passed away. So Tim dies and the end of the movie she and John reunite.
He actually didn't die.he was about to kill himself to give his heart to his dying son but his wife ran quickly to tell him the have a heart for their son. :)
In the book they don't . In the movie they re-unite towards the end of the movie
It's actually different really . At the end of Dear John in the book both John and Savannah are out on their own back yard and John feels as if it's almost they were together again . But in the Movie however, it seems like Savannah is waiting for John . And when she see's him she comes outside from the Diner to give him a hug
