Contrary to popular belief, the zodiac is not set by the seasons only- not the stars. Just like how the 12 signs are separated by the four elements and the four qualities, they are divided by the four seasons of the year(spring, summer, autumn, and winter). The constellations merely serve as convenient symbols. This is why constellations like Hydra, Ophiuchus, or Aquila can never be apart of the zodiac.

To remember this, think of the zodiac sign Libra, represented by the scales and symbolizing balance. Its cycle begins September 23, marking the equinox- the time that day and night of are equal length.
