Sorry to spoil the money making vilification of witches worldwide but NO it is not real.

The "legend" was a total fabrication by the film writer/directors Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sanchez. A very low budget, documentary fake could have been called the Blair Missing Students but that was not catchy enough, so in typical movie fashion, the word WITCH was thrown in and people flocked to the movie to see how bad witches were. It worked and now we have thousands unable or unwilling to believe that it actually is a work of fiction.

A sad commentary on the willingness of human gullibility.

No it was a low cost film the girl holding the camrea running was given a 3 day crash course before filming! However the part with the interviews with the towns people most was real interviews

No, it was entirely fake, but had a very good advertising campaign that portrayed it as real. The story however was taken from the Bell Witch Haunting in Tennessee which has a basis in actual events.

No this movie is not real. It's fake. They have come out and said it was all fake; that the news reports were done by friends. They wanted it to look real which they did a good job at, but it's not real what so ever.

No, the legend of the Blair Witch was made up. This is something that not even the actors knew when they were making the movie though. This was to help get realistic reactions out of them when they were filming.

However, it is possible that the "legend" of the Blair Witch stems from the legend of the Bell Witch.
