he was the second robin, and generally accepted as the one most hated by the fans. they actually did a survey on what should happen to jason todd. everybody chose that he should die. the joker then beat him to death with a crowbar. after that incident, he was revived in ras al ghul's lazarus pit, where he came back to life-slightly insane- and became the second red hood (the first one being the joker). he was then sort of an "anti hero". if you watch "batman under the red hood" it will make sense to you.
