∙ 12y agoBefore Katherine became a vampire, she had a child, but was forced to give her up because she was unmarried and in her time that was unacceptable. As a result of Katherine giving her child up, the child survived Klaus' slaughter when he came after Katherine's family in revenge for her becoming a vampire. Elena is a descendant of Katherine, however both Katherine and Elena are doppelgangers.
