SO ANNOYING* the 3rd hokage was getting old , he thought he was going to die soon , so he appointed naruto's father to be the 4th hokage so he could take over right after the 3rd died. Until the 4th hokage worked with the 3rd hokage. When the Nine tailed fox attacked their village the 3rd wasnt strong enough to beat the nine tailed fox but the 4th hokage was so he went and fought the Nine tailes. He couldn't beat it either so he used a jutsu which sealed himself(4th hokage) and the nine tailes inside a baby boy(Naruto) So the 4th is actually still alive. The 3rd and the 4th worked together but the 4th got defeated before the 3rd did. Does that answer our question?
