First, New Zealand is not in South America.

Second, Yes, New Zealand lies completely outside the tropics. The Tropic of Capricorn (the southern border of the tropics) lies at 23.5o South latitude. New Zealand runs from approximately 34.75o south to 45.25o South which puts it firmly in the temperate zone.

Neither but you ask a very good question because there is considerable confusion worldwide among geography and geology experts about what Continent New Zealand is really a part of and there is no one correct answer; but North or South America are definitely wrong.

New Zealand is in fact considered to be part of Australia (as a continent). Australasia or alternatively some geography definitions consider New Zealand to be part of the continent of Oceania, which is the general name applied by some geography schools to all the isles of the Pacific Ocean including Polynesia, Melanesia, Micronesia and sometimes also including the Malaysian Islands.

All these different confusing opinions on what continent New Zealand is in arise from the fact is situated on the dynamic boundary in the South Pacific Ocean between the Pacific and Indo-Australian Plates it being in fact part of Zealandia , that being a micro-continent that used to exist and has gradually submerged after ir broke away from the super continent of Gondwana. That all happened around twentyfive million years ago, and it has only been verified in recent years it happened because of a a shift in plate tectonic movements started to contort and crumple the region where New Zealand exists today.

New Zealand is an island, similar to the Caribbean islands which are not technically on a specific continent. However, due to its proximity to the continent/country of Australia, it is usually considered part of the Australia and Oceania continent.

Yes. New Zealand lies completely within the South temperate zone, as its islands lie south of the Tropic of Capricorn, and north of the Antarctic Circle.
