There is a possibility of gold being with fools gold. (Iron pyrite). If you want better tale tale signs, look for white quartz and black sands. Gold usually forms in and around quartz. Black sands are iron sands and are heavy, so if you're looking in a river and it has a lot of these sands, it would be a good place to dig.
