If you have cable or sattlelite hook up at your home, you really do not need a digital converter. If you only are using rabbit ears, you really would need a digital conterter box, so you would be able to watch TV.

Are there still converter boxes available for TV's?

Yes, several stores that sell televisions still sell the analog to digital convertor boxes. The price has dropped significantly over the last two years. A converter box can be found in some stores for $20 or more.

Can you use old antena with converter box to get HD on your anolog tv?

For most people, their old antenna will work just fine. Don't let the people at the electronics store fool you, there is no such thing as an "HD antenna." There is nothing special that needs to be done to an antenna to receive HD signals. In fact, many of the antennas that are being marketed as "HD antennas" are inferior UHF-only antennas that receive a smaller set of signals than your old antenna. However, some people who were barely receiving an analog signal may need to buy a better antenna. Also, if the location of the digital transmitter has changed or the signal strength of the TV station has changed, you may need to re-aim or replace your old antenna. Simply plug the old antenna into the converter box and then plug the converter box into your old TV where the antenna used to go and you will be fine. The converter box will tune in a digital station (some digital stations are HD, some are not) and convert the digital signal into an old-fashioned analog standard definition signal and feed it into your old analog TV. You will not be able to watch shows in HD on your old analog TV, but you will be able to watch a version of the HD broadcast that has been converted into Standard Definition (SD) for you. You will be able to watch all of the digital stations including the HD ones but you will see them in Standard Definition. Standard Definition is 480i. Digital to Analog converter boxes receive all tv transmissions of 1080P , 1080i , 720P , 480P , 480i and coverts them ALL to 480i to watch on a standard definition NTSC Analog TV.

Can you convert a TV to digital TV?

It is not possible to convert an analog television to a digital television. However, by using a digital set top receiver, it is possible to receive digital signals and deliver them as an analog signal to an analog television. Digital receivers are not expensive, starting at around $25 in US and £20 in the UK. They will allow all terrestrial channels to be received in the same way that a digital television will. Cable and satellite receivers can also receive digital signals and will provide an analog output that can be used with older televisions. With these options, there is no need to replace analog televisions right away. Remember that analog only televisions will not be HD so don't expect a sudden increase in picture quality when the digital receivers are used.

If some stations are digital and some aren't am I going to still be able to get all the channels?

Some converter boxes have an 'Analog pass through' feature allowing for just that. All stations will be required to broadcast in digital as of June. While this date has been pushed back a few times, this new deadline seems fairly solid. Get the converter box, you will love the new stations and services. There is also rebates so the boxes cost almost nothing. The truth is that some translators and some low power TV Stations will be transmitting NTSC Analog after June 12, 2009 so with a NTSC Analog TV Tuner and an ATSC Digital TV Tuner you will receive all channels.

I have my analog receiver hooked up properly but i can't get the main menu to show on tv all i get is snow on tv what do i need to do?

As of the DTV transition in June 2008, your tv and radio will no longer be able to receive analog signals of any kind. Some stations were running both analog and digital stations throughout the transition but now the only channels that are allowed to do so is public access stations (which run local programming, i.e. school events, etc.. NOT ABC, NBC, etc...) The only way for you to view programs now is to get a digital television, that includes standard definition (SDTV) and high definition (HDTV) with antenna, or you need to get a digital to analog converter box with antenna, or get cable or satellite service (cable companies are exempt from the transition but many cable companies have opted to switch to digital). If you have a digital tv (which most likely will have both an analog and digital tuner) or a converter box and you still see snow, then it either is not set up properly, or you do not have and antenna attached to it. Please keep in mind you do not need any sort of special antenna. What ever kind you have can be made to work with your set up. If you still need assistance please let me know. I was technical support specialist for the transition. Hope this helps.

When did it become a law to have an analog box?

It's not exactly a law to have a digital to analog converter box but they are needed to be able to watch television if you don't have a television with a digital receiver. Both the US and UK are going through a changeover from analog television broadcasts to digital broadcasts. In the US, major television channels had to be transmitted as a digital signal and their analog transmitters turned off in 2009. Smaller stations and community channels have more time to switch over. In the UK, all analog transmitters will be turned off by 2012. In both cases, once the analog transmitter is turned off, the only way to receive television channels is to use a digital receiver, sometimes referred to as an anlog box. The receiver changes the digital signal into a form that older analog televisions can display. The boxes mean that older televisions can still be used. All new televisions have a digital receiver built in so a separate box isn't needed.

Can I still buy an analog phone?

No a digital only phone will not work with analog service, but there are analog/digital phones, I don't know if these are still offered but they were very popular because during the transition from analog to digital, digital coverage was not as good as analog so when you had no digital service it would switch to analog. so the only way to have analog service is if the phone is dual analog/digital or if you have a old analog only phone. you can always look up your phone to see if analog is supported.

What are the extra channels you get from a converter box?

I do not believe you gain "Extra Channels." The Converter box is to convert the Digital over the air signal to a non-digital TV so you can still receive channels after the analog signal broadcasts are going to stop on Feb. 17th, 2009 in the US.

If you have an analog tv with a set top digital converter box will you be able to receive basic cable without a cable box?

Depends if your cable company is sending anything in analog to the box. Since every thing's converting to digital, chances are there may be a few remaining channels in analog still in basic, but those will be gone by February 17, 2009.
