Real doctors such as the fictional doctor House do not study rare diseases they diagnose disease that may have multiple causes so they can be correctly treated. They are called diagnosticians.
He runs a group of diagnosticians, is an ID (infectious disease specialist), and is a nephrologist. He's a doctor along with any other specialist, except he chooses to do away with social norms most professionals work hard to uphold, and that's what makes him seem so different. He is just another doctor, though. (He's a genius one, albeit.) A lot of the diseases are true, but they're embellished a lot to build up the drama. P.S. He made me sure I wanna be a doctor. ;)
House M.D is a medical practitioner in his TV show, but outside of the TV show, Hugh Laurie, who plays House, is just an actor. House M.D. in the TV show is the head of the diagnostic department, he has a double specialty in Infectious Disease and Nephrology.
The last episode of House MD was aired on Sky One, on Sunday, 1st November, at 9pm.
David Shore is the creator of House, M.D.

He was actually both.
Dr. House is a fictional charactor...there is no doctor that just does rare diseases, nor is there a hospital that gets as many of these "rare" cases as does the hospital on the show...if there was, these diseases wouldn't be rare. Dr. House is for the most part...a pathologist...these doctors look run tests and study xrays, symptoms and lab results to diagnose diseases. Much of their time is spent in a lab under a microscope...and have limited patient contact. They do not treat patients, as he does in the show...if it is something serious, they refer the patient to specialists. They also do not perform surgery...as he does in the show. Dr. House is a fictional character that is a combination of about 100 different types of doctors...if you are looking for a position that will allow you to do what House does, it does not exist...and if it did, it would take about 30-40 years of medical school...and by then no hospital would be able to afford you...but the closest thing to it would be pathologist...if you want to diagnose diseases and aid in the development of treatments and cures...while at the same time pulling in about 300-350k a year...that's where ya go
There is no difference. An Emergency Room Doctor is an MD. MD stands for Medical Doctor.

As to a kidney doctor, like any doctor, the difference between MD and DO is what the titles stand for. A DO is a Doctor of Obstetrics, and an MD is simply a Medical Doctor.
