That depends on specifically which speakers you had in mind, but I use Logitech Surround Sound speakers with my PS3 and they work fine.
You need more than just speakers. A Stereo System's Aux input might work to jury rig something that you can plug the Audio output from the PS3 and play the sound through your stereo. You could also try a Home theater system. A Sony PS3 stereo headphones set will allow you to hear the sound and also has a mic
Possible but I highly doubt it.

Yes you can, all you need is an "AUX" cable.
The Speakers get connected to the TV that the console is connected to. So yeah you can purchase a home theater and connect it to your HDTV and when you play the PS3 if everything is connected correctly you will hear it through a number of speakers.
You can't play sound through BOTH at the same time. The audio jack is basically a switch. When nothing's plugged into it, the sound is directed to the speakers. If you plug headphones or another set of speakers into it, the audio sgnal is diverted to whatever youi've plugged into the socket.

The card needs to be configured, or re-configured to play through more then 2 speakers. This can be changed in "Audio/Speakers/Sound" in the control panel.
