No. Mt. Everest is not a volcano. Mt. Everest and the entire Himalayan range are formed by two continents "crashing" into each other. This is also known as a convergence zone. The Indian tectonic plate is "crashing" into the Eurasian plate causing the Earth's crust to buckle and lift up the same way two carpets would buckle and lift up when you slide them into each other. Mt. Everest is currently growing at about 3 inches a year. Geologically speaking, that is very, very fast! Much faster than erosion can wear down the rock. The two plates started crashing into each other only about 60 million years ago.
