Yes it is if you are a minor, but seldom is this law ever brought into action because of the possible aspects of why the minor is running away. The parents will probably call the police after 24 hours. It is young people like this that cause this law of waiting the 24 hour period as the police think that many of the disappearances of kids are due to runaways! Many times this is not true and while the parents are waiting that crucial 24 hour period their child could have been abducted or worse. If the parents phone the police they will look for the runaway and usually bring them back home to the parents. If this becomes a habit this person will be brought into court and either become a Ward of the Court or put into foster care.

If the parents have been good to their child and this is a matter of not liking a set of rules at home or there has been an arguement, it is extremely cruel for this young person to just vanish. There are so many terrible crimes of missing kids out there and males/females of all ages disappear, found murdered, etc. It is a parents worst nightmare. If you or anyone you know is considering running away and it's over something that isn't all that terrible please have them think of staying home! Trust me, it's better than the streets! If this person still chooses to run away at least have them call the parents from time-to-time to let them know they are OK.

If this person wants to break hearts then run away, but if this person thinks they are so mature stay home and work it out!

AnswerAs far as I am aware there is not a 'waiting period' to report a runaway minor (although there may be, and probably is, a waiting period to report a *missing adult*). The first time you runaway, more than likely the police will simply return you home. If it continues to happen, then the court can declare you to be an 'at risk youth' or a 'child in need or services'. You can be placed under court supervision, and they might order, among other things, that you attend counseling. If that fails, then you could end up being placed in a juvenile detention facility. AnswerDon't run away unless you really feel like your parents are doing you physical harm! Stay over a friends house for a while, think it over. Running away is no good and its best to settle your arguments in home. The streets are not a very welcoming place at all.

Answer

It is not a crime to runaway and there is no waiting period required to report a youth as a runaway. The National Child Search Assistance Law mandates that a youth be reported as a runaway immediately and Police must take the report. A youth (under the age of 18) is considered a runaway as soon as they leave the property without the permission of their parent or legal guardian. It is the parent or legal guardian's responsibility to immediately report the runaway as well as cancel the report if/when the youth returns home or to an alternative place agreed upon by the parent/legal guardian. Failure to do so is considered neglect on the part of the parent.

I was smart about when i ran away me and my friend each sold our 360's used the money to buy lots of wood then took my dads hammers and screws and made a two story fort in the woods about 20 miles away from our home town. We used my friends dads generator to power the fort so we had a heater, and a mini fridge that we would stock every week, plus a cooler to keep dry foods. I had a steady job and washed my clothes at my sisters house, so basically i had my plan already done and just went with it i haven't been home for 9 months and i am doing perfectly fine. So i guess i am one of the very few smart runaways.

No, in Geogia, you can leave home at 17 and won't be forced to return or arrested. You cannot be kicked out until 18, but because you can now go to jail at 17, you can leave on your own at that age.
