Techno is a form of electronic dance music that was developed in Detroit, Michigan, during the mid to late 1980s. Many styles of techno now exist, but Detroit techno, a genre in its own right, is seen as the foundation upon which many other subgenres have been built.

The techno scene is growing in America. But it is absolutely dominating in Europe. Particularly in Germany, techno music is all the rage. Electronic chants in raves and giant dances surge techno music to heights comprable to mainstream media. In America, its slowly growing but is nowhere near as dominant as Pop Music. Though this is from a purist perspective. Listen closely at the newest pop songs and you will find a surprising amount of electronic elements and driving techno beats incorporated into these mainstream songs. Considering the turnout for the most recent Tiesto concert, techno music is definitely on the rise.

Music is subjective and it doesn't matter what sexuality you are. You can listen to any music if you are gay, it doesn't necessarily mean you listen to techno.

However if gays bump into each other a lot at different events and are friends and have strong bonds, certain types of music may become popular for them. It becomes a social factor for the gay minority.
