Generally speaking, the Amazon River has huge quantities of silt and organic matter in it. This is because there is so much water moving along it and because it drains such a vast area of land. The Amazon accounts for about a fifth of all the river drainage in the world, so it handles millions of tons of "stuff" along its course. Africa is fairly dirty with diseases. Considering how most of Africa is the plains and the wild, I would say not as clean as the U.S. by far.
