Yes, it is a good book for people, I would say, 10+. Although not explicit, it deals with the tender subject of the Holocaust. There is no profanity or sexual content, and little violence. It's sometimes odd taking the recommendation from a stranger online, but this is truly a moving book.
In fact, it is a marvellous book filled with sadness and adventures. This book would not be recommended to a nine year old because the main character Bruno meets another boy exactly the same age as him which is nine and become best friends which is one of the biggest mistakes a German boy would do because that boy was a Jewish and his name was Shmuel. This story was in the year 1943 when all of the Germans were enemies with the Jewish.
(megsammyh) i also would like to add that my 10 year old cousin watched the movie and was crying hysterically. Some of the language of the time and everything going on may confuse or frighten someone under 10, I agree.
