You can "predict" anything you like, but many predictions don't come true.
I "predict" that there will be a presidential election on November 6, 2012.
Some people "predict" that the world will end on December 21, 2012.
My prediction is based in the laws of the United States, and is very likely to come true. Their prediction is based on the supposed "end" of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans themselves ended about 500 years ago, so I'm not sure how relevant their calendar is. When we reach the end of our calendar, we start over again. If there were any Mayans left, I suspect that's what they'd say, too.
The world isn't going to end any time soon - and if it does, it WON'T be something that we know about now.
Prediction and hypothesis are kinda the same thing. Experiment is what you do to test your hypothesis or prediction.
