Depends what season. In about season 2 (the end) she quits because of her fiancée, and then something happens to her (not gonna say ;) ) and she leaves. She comes back one more time in episode 1 & 2 of season 6.

Katherine heigl says she will not be returning to greys anatomy because she wants to raise her young daughter full time. though it is unlikely, she could appear in a few episodes. she and Alex did get divorced so they would have to deal with that. Katherine does talk about wishing she never quit and wondering where her character Izzy would be so that could be a hint of her return.
