Albert was a fictionalcharacter (made up by the director, Michael Landon). Nothing said he survived his illness and nothing said he died. Albert wanted to be a doctor, so he could have been really replacing Dr. Baker. but he wasn't there after that episode they said he would die. The important thing is he wasn't in the last episode where they blew up the town, ''The Last Farewell''. Therefore, who knows what happened!!! :) Good question.
