Since what Rem really wanted was Misa's happiness, she herself admits that she has developed a desire to help Light, as she knows that Light's happiness is essential to Misa's happiness.

Q: Rem figured out Light's plan too late and thus was trapped into killing L and Watari to save Misa BUT why didn't she just kill Light off at that time as well just to spite him for his evil trick?
