Should a 12 year old go to the movies with her friends?

At The MallI would say so. I say a good age for that is around 12 or so. At any rate, make sure they have a cell phone with them, that they are with siblings or friends, and they NEVER walk alone. Also make sure you have a direct means of contact with them at all times. Also, make sure you say that it is not going to be everytime that she/he goes to the mall. But as a parent of my own, I think it is great to give freedoms starting the preteen year. You are preparing them for the future.

If you're the 12 year old, then the answer is whatever your parents say it is.

If you're the parent... it's your call, but there's certainly no pressing need for a 12 year old to be allowed to gallivant all over creation without adult supervision.

The dividing line between "reasonably safety-oriented parent" and "obsessive paranoid stick-in-the-mud" is almost certainly higher than 12, but probably lower than 16 (unless you have reason to suspect that "movies" are a pretext for "sketchy activities with dodgy boys").

Another VIew: It will depend on just how younger than 16 these childrem are - AND - how long you leave them there.

It depends how old they are .

If they have a cell phone with them its ok

But letting a 8year old kid go isnt smart

10-11 is a good age
