Children should mainly be taught moral values by their parents. In today's society thou, parents are busy working double shifts, putting in some extra hours at work, or spend hours commuting, and do not have enough time to build a strong moral foundation in their children.
Studies have shown that parents spend an average of 45 minutes a day with their children. That is barely enough to eat breakfast in the morning, and read a bed time story at night. There is not enough time left for teaching.
Schools are already teaching children moral values by teaching them about sexual education, politics, and religion. (Oh wait, they took out religion...) We should come up with a universally accepted moral values list, and teach it to children in school.Take out religious influence, political views, and teach what's left.
Example of a moral value list could be:
Do not kill.
Do not lie.
Do not steal.
Respect elderly.
Respect your parents.
Respect and obey local and governmental authority.
These are just some basic things that do not offend, and are some of the building blocks our society is built on.
Therefore, YES, schools should teach moral values. Without good moral values, a society can not, and will not work.
it is the duty of every parent to teach moral values to their children, this is not the job of the teacher, they teach subjects to help them in life and later on for finding employment
