Similarities between Ireland and US

There are culture similarities only to the extent that we both speak English and Irish culture was brought with them by Irish immigrants to your country. There are places in US where Irish music and dance is as vibrant as here, but in the overall scheme of things, it may be just one influence among many, and most visible for St. Patrick's Day celebrations. We are influenced by US in minor ways like fast food (McDonalds, Kentucky Fried Chicken etc.), various American TV shows - though we don't nearly as many ad breaks as you do. We have our own Gaelic sports which are the most popular here, and I have never heard of Baseball being played here, though maybe it is.

Our lifestyles are broadly similar - go to work or school in the same way, and family life is the pivot of most homes. We do have some apartments, especially in cities, but the majority of Irish people prefer to buy their own house. We have very few huge shopping malls like yours, and our shopping centres are often in or adjoining residential areas. No part of Ireland is far from a source of fresh water, so while we do have water on tap, it is not recycled for drinking. Our farmers are not allowed to inject animals with growth hormone, and I think our meat tastes more natural as a result. You have long endless straight roads into the sunset, and ours (except for motorways) can be very winding and twisty. It is not unusual for us to have a quite big town here and another smaller one just 10 miles or so down the road. We drive on the "wrong" side of the road to you, and that might take a bit of getting used to. You will find many of the same brands you are familiar with in our shops.

Come and have a great holiday. Don't bring anything electrical with you as our voltage is different from yours. All the same, I think you will find more similarities than differences.
