Best Answer

1) They both involve transfer of heat

2) Particles in liquid and gases move around and vibrate. In conduction particles in solds also vibrate.

Can't think of anymore. can anyon else?

Similarities:

  • conduction, transports thermal energy from a hot object to a cold object
  • convection, transports thermal energy from a hot object to a cold object
  • radiation, transports thermal energy from a hot object to a cold object

Differences:

  • conduction, requires direct contact between the hot object and the cold object to operate
  • convection, requires fluid movement of matter and gravity to operate
  • radiation, requires neither contact nor movement of matter to operate transfers the energy via electromagnetic radiation

Convection (when it can operate) is always the most efficient at moving large quantities of thermal energy and radiation is always the least efficient (but it can always operate).

Similarities between conduction convection and radiation?

The only similarity is that they all have to do with the movement/transfer of heat.Conductionis the process by which heat transfers between bodies that are in physical contact with each other. Heat is transferred without the movement of individual particles.Convectionis the process by which heat rises and cold descends. The particles of the medium actually move during this process.Radiationis the process by which heat is transferred between bodies that are not in direct contact with each other by means of electromagnetic waves.also, conduction and convection are to do with particle movement where as radiation is to do with electromagnetic waves. They are similar as---All the three are ways in which heat is transmitted.Conduction---By direct contact.Convection---By currents(covection)Radiation-----Does not require a medium !
