Coaxial cable has a center core of copper wire surrounded by a layer of insulation, which is in turn surrounded by a conductive braided shielding and encased in a final insulation sheath. The center copper core and the braided shielding layer act as two independent conductors, thus allowing two - way communications over a coaxial cable.

I have done this before. I think it's called a splinter. What you do is take the main cable wire and hook it up to the splinter. Then there will be two spots on the other side of it to hook two wires. Hook one to one and the other to the other one. Then there ya go! =)
Most times they are the same but a satellite signal needs to be carried by RG6 cable it is a heavier gauge wire then say RG59. Regular or analog cable signal is sometimes carried by RG59 but digital cable should use RG6. +++ The primary specification is not conductor size but the impedance and capacitance of the cable.
