Close to when the book ends, in chapter 49, Sam tells a person to get some of his onion drink in their system because yellow-spotted lizards don't like onions, and, lucky for Stanely and Zero, they were on nothing but onions and muddy water for a week.

∙ 14y agoThe lizards didn't kill Stanley and Hector because when they reached "God's Thumb", they both ate the onions growing in that area. In the book, Sam says that the lizards hate onion blood.
