What happns when the weight of a submerged object is exactly equal to the buoyant force?

It will stay at whatever depth you place it ... 6 inches deep, 6 feet deep, at the bottom, etc. The force of gravity is exactly balanced by the buoyant force, and the object is perfectly weightless in the water. Since the net vertical force on it is zero, it has no desire to rise or sink, and it stays wherever you put it. This situation is called "neutral buoyancy". It's the condition submarines like to achieve for submerged level cruising, by properly manipulating their ballast, so that they don't have to constantly be fighting a tendency to rise or sink as they 'steam' along underwater.
