depends, if you are talking strictly the Columbia pictures shorts that aired in movie theatres and the tv series Curly was first. But if you talk the Vaudeville act that caught the attention of Columbia pictures to sign them Shemp was first. Shemp has the unique distinction of being the replacement for his replacement.

Was the a Shep in the three stooges?

Shemp, whose real name was Sam, but his mother's accent made it sound like "Shemp"when she said "Sam"

What is the name of that episode when the three stooges where dressed like santaclaus?

Disguised as Santa Claus? There's actually two episodes. The one with Curly is "Wee Wee Monsieur" from 1938. The one with Shemp is "Malice in the Palace" from 1949.

What are the middle names of the three stooges?

Moe's full birth name is Moses Harry Horwitz. Curly is Jerome Lester Horwitz. Shemp was originally Samuel Horwitz (middle name unknown) - the name "Shemp" came about because that was what it sounded like when his mother said "Sam" in her heavy accent. Larry is Louis Fienberg (again, middle name unknown). I don't know Joe Besser's middle name. Joe DeRita, or Curly-Joe, was born Joseph Wardell, but took DeRita for his stage name - it was his mother's maiden name. When he joined the Stooges in their later years, he was then called Curly-Joe, due to the physical resemblance between him and Curly, and to avoid confusion with Joe Besser.

WAs there a The Three Stooges 1950s episode with Curley as a sleeping train passenger?

Yes.Actually, the original short was Hold That Lion that was released in 1947 and the remake was Booty and the Beast that was released in 1953. The Stooges are looking for a crook that stole their dough and they follow him onto a train. They are looking around when they see a fellow sleeping in a seat with a derby hat over his face. Thinking this might be the crook, Larry lifts up the hat to reveal a snoring Curly who has a full head of hair. After a few seconds of snoring and barking and the like, Larry puts the hat back over Curly's face and the Stooges look elsewhere for the crook. This was the only time Moe, Curly, and Shemp appeared together in a Three Stooges short.

Who was the last living member of The Three Stooges?

Technically, it was Emil Sitka who was scheduled to take over for Larry when he passed in January, 1975. But Moe fell ill to lung cancer and passed in April, 1975 and Sitka never got to play with the Stooges. He was a role player in many Stooges two-reel shorts of the 1940s and 1950s. He passed away in 1998. Moe Howard - 1897-1975 Larry Fine - 1902-1975 Curly Howard - 1903-1952 Shemp Howard - 1895-1955 Joe Besser - 1907-1988 Curly Joe DeRita - 1909-1993 Joe Palma - 1905-1994* Emil Sitka - 1914-1998 * - Shemp passed away with four two-reel shorts left in the contract. Joe Palma stepped in and 'played' Shemp for those four shorts. Palma had no lines, kept his face away from the camera, and wore a wig that looked like Shemp's hair. Palma, like Emil Sitka, played in many Stooges shorts in the 40s and 50s. At the end of the contract Joe Besser was signed to become the third Stooge.

How long were the three stooges on tv?

anythings"s possible with reruns, generally. There are, of course stitched-together anthology films of the Stooges" works, usually shown late at night or near or on minor holidays such as Halloween. You can"t keep a good stooge down! There were or are also cartoon variants. they drew the ire of Dr. Spock as he knew of kindergartners who thought the (parade) sequence of two of the stooges using Curley"s head for a drum was hilarious, noit realizing how dangerous it was, the Stooges were past masters of slapstick, and in fact were nealy impotent sans sound effects and trick photography, on stage, live, they were almost boring! My Undle Bob saw them live at the De Witt theatre in Bayonne in the late thirties and was turned off.

Has anyone else ever heard Moe say cuss in The Three Stooges episode Brideless Groom?

This sounds like an urban legend to me. At the time that the Stooges were filmed there was no foul language, inuendo, ect. At that time in Hollywood they had a 'morals' comminttee that made sure everything was cleaned up long before it hit theaters. The statement "At the time that the Stooges were filmed there was no foul language..." is really stupid! Of course there was foul language! In the "Brideless Groom" episode when Shemp drops the nickel in the phone booth and gets tangled up with Moe, you can VERY CLEARLY hear Moe say, "Get the F--- up off me here! You don't even have to listen that closely, he says it really loud and clearly.
