I have seen the film (cartoon version) and it is needlessly scary and confusing for kids. the plot is not too different than (love handicapped by some sort of say, facial disfigurement, handicap or accident) but here Black Magic plays a role. there are overtones of sacrilege. a young woman is abducted. abduction is WRONG as is Shanghaing and Piracy. to take someone"s freedom away from them-unless they have been adjudicated of committing a crime, is a grave miscarriage of justice. Love is supposed to be an open and equal exchange. the Beast abducts a young woman against her will- and no sugar daddy promises either. there are weird anti-religious passages often without dialogue- the God-Man-Dog- Man cycle which is disturbing even if silent running. If it was a case of someone with a health or injury problem, maybe some moral intrigue there, but as written and performed, I cannot say it is a good idea. abduction is wrong.

The story of Beauty and the Beast is based on the ancient greek myth of Eros and Psyche. Eros means erotic, and psyche means soul or intellect. These two characters completed each other because you need lust, passion, and instinct as well as intellect, soulfulness, and reason. The story is about our inner animal, our unconscious self and our rational waking mind.

It's fitting that this story is a fantasy, because it is said that the meeting point of our unconscious and conscious self is when we dream. and to communicate raw emotion into a language our logical selves understand, our dreams act as a metaphor machine. This translates your buried feelings into symbols.

Through communicating the constant inner struggle of both sides of yourself in symbols we have a smart young woman falling in love with a wild beast that is hated by civilized society.

Beauty in the beast was derived from Eros and psyche by a french writer. She sought to turn the story into a comforting tale for very very young women sold into marriage with much older men. She wanted to teach these girls that they must seek the prince inside the beast. Feeling love for one's captor is called Stockholm Syndrome.

The original tale of eros and psyche, did place psyche in this situation. She was kept in a magical house all alone, and he would visit her at night, so that she could not see who he was. She assumed he was a beast, when in fact he was beautiful Cupid. She fell in love with him at the moment she snuck a light into the bedroom.

In Beauty and the beast Belle admits her love for the beast before knowing who he really is. Therefore the main message of Beauty and the Beast is that you can love someone for who they are inside and not their looks. Basically it's about loving for reasons that are not vain or superficial.
