Lara was the daughter of Edmund Winslow and the girlfriend of Shayne Lewis. She was a peace corp member when she met Shayne and they became lovers. Shayne had to leave and Lara found out that she was pregnant. She went to visit Shayne in Afghanistan to tell him that she was pregnant when a land mine erupted in the field she was walking in. She was brought back to Bosnia and gave birth to a baby boy who was adopted by Shaynes ex girlfriend Marina and her husband Mallet.
