Since he was and will always be an important role in Sikhism
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was born in 1469, not 1497. However, if you are referring to influential figures around that time, one notable figure is the Sikh Guru Angad, who was born in 1504. Guru Angad became the second Guru of Sikhism after Guru Nanak and played a vital role in shaping the early community and scripture.
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, was succeeded by Guru Angad Dev Ji as the second Guru. Guru Angad Dev Ji continued to spread the teachings of Sikhism and further developed the faith, including the introduction of the Gurmukhi script. He played a crucial role in organizing the Sikh community and promoting its values.
Guru Nanak's companions were known as the "sangat" or "sadhsangat," referring to the community of devoted followers and spiritual seekers who gathered around him. Notable companions included Bhai Mardana, a Muslim minstrel who played the rabab, and Bhai Bala, who was a close associate. These companions played a significant role in spreading Guru Nanak's teachings and participating in his spiritual journeys.
Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism, is often depicted with a halo around his head to symbolize his spiritual enlightenment and divine nature. The halo represents his connection to the divine and his role as a spiritual teacher. In many artistic traditions, halos are used to signify holiness and the presence of divine light, emphasizing Guru Nanak's significance as a prophet and guide for humanity. This imagery reflects the reverence and respect attributed to him within the Sikh faith.
Guru Nanak became guru because, he believed in one god and that Muslims and Hindus should not be separated and should be united instead. He went missing for 3 days at the age of 30 and was found that he was on the lake talking to god. God gave him the role in life to be a guru. His first words when he came out of the river were: 'god is neither Muslim or hindu' and that is how guru Nanak became guru.
Guru Nanak was so important to the Sikh's because he was the first guru, also he was the one who founded Sikhism, they was no Sikhism before he was born. Guru Nanak believes in one god and Sikh's want to follow that too. You should show that you respect Guru Nanak by calling him Guru Nanak Dev Ji.Guru Nak Dev Ji is a rolemodel to Sikh's because he cared about everyone even the untouchables. You shouldn't touch the untouchables according to everyone except Guru Nanak Dev Ji. Once when he was going to school one morning he touched an untouchable, he dad was ashamed of him but Guru Nanak said " Everyone has got a God in them." When he went to school he got in trouble because he didn't want to learn the alphabet he wanted to learn about God and pray to him. His Teacher wasn't having this behavier and he got suspened.
While all ten Sikh Gurus played a vital role in shaping Sikhism, Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the first Guru, is often regarded as the most important. He laid the foundation of Sikh philosophy, emphasizing the oneness of God, equality, and social justice. His teachings and spiritual insights set the tone for the subsequent Gurus, who built upon his principles and further developed the faith. Each Guru contributed uniquely, but Guru Nanak's vision remains central to Sikh beliefs.
