Production for Poltergeist 3 ended in June of 1987. Heather died on February 1, 1988. Heather had completed all of her scenes. However, there was a re-shoot of the ending scene that was made after Heather's death. You never see Carol Anne's face in the final scene because she was being played by Heather's stand-in, Cristy Davis, wearing a blond wig.

Heather O' rouke 1975 - 1988 In 1987 she started to have flu like symptoms. The doctors said she had Chrons disease and put her on a chromosome which the result of that was the "Swollen Cheeks" which were very visible in poltergeist 3. Every thing was fine until super bowl Sunday of 1988. she couldn't swallow anything and she crawled into bed with her parents saying she didn't feel good. The next morning she couldn't swallow her Gatorade or toast and her mother Kathleen noticed her fingers were blue so she called the doctor. She was getting her dressed to take her to the doctor when she fainted she called the ambulance and when they were putting her in she was insisting that she was fine and she wanted to go to school. Heather had developed an intestinal obstruction that caused part of her small intestine to burst they had emergency surgery performed and she survived the procedure but remained unconscious her body could not recover from the infection and the septic shock she also went through. at 2:43pm she was pronounced dead, her last words were I love you. She was laid to rest on February 5th, 1988 in Westwood Village Memorial Park. Her Plague reads: Heather O'Rourke - Beloved Daughter - Sister - "Carol Anne" - Poltergeist I, II, III.
