No. In fact, the name was pretty much unheard-of at the time (except as a nickname for Gwendolyn). Barrie got the name from a little girl he knew, who called him his "fwendy-wendy" (mispronouncing "friend-y"). The play and the novel version (called Peter and Wendy) were so popular that the name became common.
